Arrival is the Simple Minded Symphony's first nose dive into the Seattle Ska scene. However, this EP wouldn't be complete without knowing some background about the band. For the majority of the band's lifetime (approx. eight years), SMS has been separated. Members moved away from each other in the early days, and were ultimately scattered throughout the U.S. This made song writing, rehearsing, performing, and administrative tasks extremely difficult for the bunch. To add, college proved to be a beast of it's own, consuming time in every nook and cranny. Theoretically, SMS should have died some time ago. As you can probably tell, they wouldn't allow this fate to come to fruition. With a home-base in Seattle, SMS began to rebuild with stellar musicians found in the city. Eventually, some of these musicians found a home with SMS, finalizing the official line-up of the band. From there, they stepped into the fray; young, naive, and scrappy.
With SMS rebuilt, work began to book shows throughout the greater Seattle area. Members across the country took initiative and even flew back home, far and frequently, for performances. They've made some amazing friends along the way: It Gets Worse, Mister Blank, Landrace, and Rundown Kreeps just to name a few. Over time, SMS landed gigs with Big D & the Kids Table, The Toasters, and Voodoo Glow Skulls. "We were upswinging."
Present day, college is coming to an end, and so is this cruel, cruel distance that has separated us for so long. Since SMS's conception, we've been dealing with countless hours of rehearsing, writing, performing, driving, and flying under the backdrop of distance, school, and stress. Our passion and love for making music has kept us doing what we do in the middle of all of the madness. Soon, SMS will be in the same location for the first time, and we are ecstatic to see what we can do.
For now, we leave you with "Arrival," an EP that provides insight into what we have become, and what we are going to be.

As always, we'd like to thank our fans, friends, and family for showing us overwhelming support over the years.
Well, apart from the fact I have a cousin who plays percussion and inspires some of the lyrics, I like The Replicators because the music is good, lyrics have references to quality movies and tv shows, and the brass section occasional gives way to driving punk chords. Fun, fun band, Josh Shepherd
